Acting on your choices

Deleting safely

Three ways to delete, which one is the default, and what happens to the other half of a pair.

Three destinations

When you commit a delete, Cullant can send the file to one of three places.

Where What it means
Recycle Bin The default. Your operating system holds the file until you empty the bin. Undo works.
A _trash folder A folder inside the project. The files stay on the same disk, which matters on a card or a network share where there is no bin.
Permanent Gone. No history, no undo.

You choose at commit time, so the choice is in front of you at the moment it matters.

What gets deleted

With mirror mode on, a delete takes every file of the shot: the RAW, the JPEG, an .ORI, a .HIF, and the sidecar. That is the whole point: a shot you rejected should not leave anything behind.

To delete part of a shot:

  • Alt + Del: the RAW only
  • Shift + Del: the JPEG only

Or decouple the shot with Ctrl + J first and treat its files separately from then on. See RAW+JPEG mirror mode.

Rejects and deletes are the same thing

Flagging a reject queues a delete. Clearing the flag removes it. You never have to keep the two in step yourself, and you cannot end up with a reject that quietly fails to get cleaned up.

Before you commit, filter the grid to rejected and look through it once. It takes a minute and it is the pass that catches a frame you killed by accident.

After the commit

The commit history lets you undo a whole commit or one line of it, as long as the files went to the Recycle Bin or to _trash.
