Settings worth knowing

The handful of settings that change how Cullant behaves, and what each costs.

Most of the settings can be left alone. These are the ones that change how the app feels.

Preview quality

Three presets, up to 3840 pixels on the long edge. A higher setting gives you a better loupe view and costs more disk in the cache and more time on the first pass through a shoot.

Balanced is right for most screens. Go high if you judge focus on a 4K monitor.

You can throw the whole cache away at any time and Cullant will build it again.

Delete destination

Recycle Bin, a project-local _trash folder, or permanent. The Recycle Bin is the default and the only one that keeps undo working. See Deleting safely.

Auto mode

Off by default. Turn it on and queued actions run the moment you make them, with no commit step. Faster, and irreversible in exchange.

XMP sidecars

Whether to write sidecars on commit. Off means Cullant writes nothing beside your photos at all. See XMP and Lightroom.

Automatic rescan

Off, 1, 5 or 15 minutes. It only runs while the storage is reachable, so an unplugged card does not produce a list of files that have supposedly vanished.

Burst detection

Adaptive, or a fixed gap in seconds. Adaptive suits mixed shooting; a fixed gap is more predictable if you always shoot the same way.

The press-and-hold ring, and what goes in each of its slots. Worth arranging if you use a tablet or a pen. It can also be opened with a mouse gesture on the desktop.
