RAW+JPEG pairing

Shoot RAW and JPEG together and your camera writes two files per frame. Cullant treats them as one photo.

The rule

Files that share a folder and a base name belong to the same shot.

With pairing on, which is the default, an action on either file applies to both:

• a star lands on both
• a reject queues a delete for both
• a colour label, a task tag and a rotation all follow

With pairing off, the two are independent. Rate the JPEG and the RAW keeps its own rating.

Press M to flip the switch for the whole project.

Flipping the switch never migrates anything. Cullant always stores state per file; pairing only decides where a keypress lands. Turn it on and off as often as you like without losing a rating.

Splitting one shot

To keep the JPEG and drop the RAW for a single frame, press Ctrl + J. That shot leaves the pair and its files become independent, while the rest of the project stays paired. The same key puts it back.

There are also two shortcuts that queue a delete for half a pair without splitting it:

• Alt + Del drops the RAW and keeps the JPEG
• Shift + Del drops the JPEG and keeps the RAW

Which one you see

The grid shows the RAW. Press J in the loupe to look at the JPEG instead, which is useful when you want to see what the camera made of the frame.

When a pair gets separated

Files only pair if they share a folder and a base name. A rename that touched one half, or a copy that put them in different folders, breaks that. The pair sync dialog, under the view menu, puts them back together.
